Peninsula Community Church (PCC) began from a Bible Study group that met at the home of Paul and Lisa Nitz near Roxana, Delaware in 1996 and 1997. Paul Nitz had been a pastor in the Pittsburgh area for several years, and his family actually moved to the shore to take a break from the ministry and tend to some needs with Paul's aging parents. Their own needs for Christian fellowship led first to a women's Bible study group and kid's group that started in their home. These eventually spawned a Sunday evening family group; and in time the conviction spread among the attenders that God had brought them together for a greater purpose, to found a new local church committed to presenting historic Christianity in terms people today could relate to. After several months of thinking and praying together, 17 adults, representing 33 people in all, signed a covenant committing themselves to work together to found this different kind of church in our area. PCC gained a Mission Church status with The Evangelical Free Church of America at the Eastern District Conference at Sandy cove near Northeast, Maryland on October 23 and 24, 1997. The first service for the public was held on February 15, 1998 at the old Selbyville High School. Later the congregation rented the Fellowship Hall of the Presbyterian church in Frankford and met there on Sundays for several years. The ministry steadily grew and prospered in Frankford until 2006 when services began on a 22 acre campus on Route 54 just west of Selbyville. The new building was under construction for over 2 years, so you can imagine the joy and excitement of moving into it and expanding ministry opportunities. The Dedication Service was held on February 26th, 2006 with Pastor Jerry reminding all present why we are involved in the ministry with the message "What's Our Business?" God's hand of leading and provision has really been evident from the outset, and we can't wait to see what he has in store for us in the future! Paul Nitz resigned in July of 2005 and the church called Jerry Denton, who had filled in for PCC during April, May, and June of 2005. Pastor Jerry served until August of 2007 and a Pastoral Search Committee is currently accepting inquiries from potential candidates. Pastor Bill Sammons has happily agreed to serve as Interim Pastor. We are very excited to have him. Though retired from full-time ministry, his messages remain powerful and his Wednesday evening studies contain food for the mind and the spirit.
